How Much Does a Website Cost in India? A Straight Answer for 2026

O Ottomern Team 8 min read

Quotes for the same website can range from ₹15,000 to ₹5 lakh. Here is what actually drives the price, what each budget gets you, and the costs nobody mentions until the invoice arrives.

Ask five agencies to quote the same website and you will get five numbers that look like they came from different planets. One says ₹15,000, another says ₹2.5 lakh. Both can be honest. The difference is almost always in what is actually being built — and what is quietly left out.

This guide breaks down what drives the price, what a realistic budget gets you, and how to compare quotes without getting burned.

What actually drives the price

A website is not priced per page. It is priced by the amount of thinking, building and testing it needs. Five things move the number more than anything else:

  • Custom design vs a template. A bought theme with your logo swapped in is fast and cheap. A design made for your brand, your customers and your conversion goals takes days of UX and UI work.
  • Content management. A static site is cheaper to build but every text change needs a developer. A proper CMS costs more up front and saves you money every month after.
  • Features and integrations. Payment gateways, booking systems, CRMs, WhatsApp, shipping APIs, multi-language — each one adds build and testing time.
  • Performance and SEO work. A site that loads in under two seconds and is set up for Google does not happen by accident. It is engineering time.
  • Who is building it. A freelancer, a small studio and a full agency with design, development and QA under one roof will price very differently.

Realistic price ranges

These are indicative ranges for the Indian market in 2026. Your project can sit anywhere in a band depending on the points above.

Type of website Typical range Good for
Basic business site (5–8 pages, template-based) ₹15,000 – ₹50,000 New businesses that need to be findable
Custom business site with CMS ₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000 Established businesses that want leads
eCommerce store ₹1,00,000 – ₹5,00,000+ Selling products online at scale
Custom web application / portal ₹3,00,000 upward Booking systems, dashboards, SaaS

If a quote is far below these ranges, ask what is missing. If it is far above, ask what you are getting that justifies it. Both questions are fair.

The costs nobody mentions

The build is only part of the bill. Make sure your budget covers these:

  1. Domain name — usually ₹800 to ₹1,500 a year for a .com or .in.
  2. Hosting — from a few thousand a year on shared hosting to much more for cloud servers that handle real traffic.
  3. Content — professional copywriting and photography are often not included.
  4. Maintenance — updates, security patches, backups and small changes. Budget for this monthly or yearly, not "when something breaks".
  5. Third-party tools — paid plugins, email services, payment gateway fees.

An SSL certificate, on the other hand, should not cost you extra in 2026. Free certificates are standard, and any decent host includes one.

Cheap vs expensive: where the difference shows

A cheap website usually costs more later. The common patterns we see when clients come to us for a rebuild:

  • The site is slow on mobile, so Google ranks it lower and visitors leave.
  • The business does not own the code, domain or hosting account — the old developer does.
  • Every small change needs a paid ticket because there is no CMS.
  • There is no analytics, so nobody knows whether the site brings in any business.

The right question is not "what is the cheapest option?" but "what will this site earn or save us over three years?"

How to get an accurate quote

You will get better, comparable quotes if you send every agency the same brief. Include:

  • What the site must achieve (leads, sales, bookings, credibility).
  • A list of pages and features you know you need.
  • Two or three websites you like, and what you like about them.
  • Who will update the content after launch.
  • Your timeline and a rough budget band.

Then compare quotes line by line. A good agency will tell you what is included, what is not, and who owns what at the end.

The short answer

For most small and mid-sized businesses in India, a professional custom website with a CMS sits between ₹50,000 and ₹2 lakh. Below that you are usually buying a template; above it you are usually buying custom functionality.
